When “Made in America” really meant something
On November 25, 1949, Cadillac Detroit assembly line produced its one millionth car, a 1950 Coupe de Ville. 1949 also set a new sales mark of 100,000 cars, matched in 1950 and 1951. In 1949 the first mass-produced hardtop coupe – marketed as the Coupe de Ville, would become one of Cadillac’s most popular models for many years. Cadillacs dominated the luxury market with well-built, powerful, mass-produced cars.
